Up until recently if anyone asked me to recommend a book as a great introduction to spirituality I would offer them “Conversations with God“. Now I tend to recommend a couple of books. As well as “CWG” I also recommend this book. It’s a wonderful introduction to the topic from someone with first hand experiences of the most profound nature.
“Dying to be Me” by Anita Moorjani
This is a book that I heard about whilst interviewing someone for my “My Spirituality” video series. For some reason it caught my interest – one of those nudges from the Universe! So I bought it and consumed it avidly.
Overview
Anita Moorjani wrote it after having a near death experience (NDE) and miriculous recovery. Basically, she had terminal cancer with no offer of hope from the medical profession. After fighting it for a few years she ends up “dying”. During this experience she goes to the afterlife where she has the most profound experience. There, she is able to understand what it’s all about, why we are here on this planet and how our thoughts create our reality.
Fortunately for us, she is offered the option to return to this world which she accepts and when she wakes from her NDE she starts miraculously to heal. Despite extensive tests there is soon no trace of her cancer. The medical profession could not offer any explanation for her healing. For her, her reason for coming back is to spread the word so that the rest of us might better understand this deeper meaning that lift has to offer.
Spirituality Level
Now, for experienced people on the spiritual path, there might not be that much that is “new”. It is the same message of “we are all connected”, “our thoughts are creative”, “we need to love ourselves” and “love underpins the universe”. However, rather than this being a message that is passed down from some mountain top mystic, it comes from someone who has first hand experience of it. The fact that its written in simple, easy to understand language from someone who has actually been through an NDE makes it much more convincing than some dry spiritual text. She talks extensively about how she created her cancer in the first place through her negative thinking. How external, cultural and societal pressures lead her to think herself ill. The lessons she brings back are wonderful guiding principles to help us all in our lives.
A Great Introduction to Spirituality
Anita is around today and you can read her books, watch her videos and decide for yourself about her story. For me it is utterly convincing and a wonderful message of hope for us all. I thoroughly recommend that you read this book. It is a great introduction to spirituality!
